Tech clinic on terminology and glossary tools - August 2021 (75:38)

About this insiders training πŸ”Ž

The insiders and Glossaries for Interpreters 2.0 students teamed up for a live Q&A on everything related to terminology and glossaries.

During this interactive Q&A, Josh answered the following questions:

  • Imagine you have an interpreting exam and can't use your glossaries during it. How do you use glossaries to prepare? (Check this one out to hear Josh's "Five ways to use glossaries" and a group discussion about how to add keywords or abbreviations - like titles, names of officials/committees, dates, numbers etc. - to glossaries to make them easier to search.)

  • How does speech recognition work with glossaries? How effective is it in different languages? Which languages does it cover?

  • How can you use InterpretBank/Interpreters' Help/interplex to filter terms in your glossary?

  • I've only used InterpretBank to prepare glossaries and search for terms in the booth. Is there any other way you use it in the booth, like for viewing glossaries or for speech recognition?

  • How does terminology extraction work in InterpretBank?

  • When I use terminology extraction in InterpretBank, many of the terms are quite "common" since they're chosen based on frequency rather than what an interpreter might already know. Is there any way to filter for more "useful" or "rarer" terms?

  • How do the "collect terms from a website" and "collect terminology based on a topic" features in InterpretBank work? Can you configure these to find more "useful" or "rarer" terms?

  • How do you adjust the search filters to, i.e. search in only one language or field?
